It’s so important to spend time in nature- especially as the weather starts to get nicer towards Spring and Summer.
Nature is fantastic for your mental and physical health, with plenty of big benefits of green spaces. Spending time outside can help you feel happier- and getting some natural light can even improve your sleep.
In this blog post, I’ve put together 5 big benefits of nature for your health- including your physical and mental well-being.
1. You can get active!
One of the big benefits of nature is that it’s great for your physical health! Enjoying nature usually involves getting active, such as a lovely walk through your local park or a fun bike ride through the woods.
Just going for a stroll through nature can boost your cardiovascular health and encourage you to stay active. If you get to enjoy a nice green space while you exercise, it will also give you more motivation to work out on a regular basis.
2. It can boost your mental health
Nature can also boost your mental health. Sunlight can ease some of the symptoms of depression, improving your mood and helping you feel less tired throughout the day.
It’s so important to get outside whenever you can, even if it’s just for a little sit in the garden when the sun is out.
This will let you soak up some vitamin D and boost your energy levels. It doesn’t even have to be sunny outside- just taking in some natural light can help to boost your mood.
There are lots of brilliant nature activities for your mental health. Spending time in nature can also help with anxiety and stress, getting you out of the house and encouraging you to feel connected to the world around you.
3. Nature can improve your breathing
Spending time in nature can improve your breathing, and natural green spaces can lower your risk of respiratory concerns. By heading into nature, you can breathe fresh air and escape indoor or outdoor air pollution.
This is particularly important if you live in a city. You might need to make more of an effort to get out into nature, but it’s so important to prioritise it whenever you can, to improve your breathing and physical health. You could go camping in a field or head out for a long hike at the weekend, to get away from city fumes and pollutants.
4. It can help your sleep
One of the big benefits of nature is that it can actually help you sleep! Your body’s internal clock follows the sun, meaning time spent outdoors in nature can encourage you to feel awake during the day and sleepy at night.
You don’t even have to go and find a green space if you don’t have much time. Just step outside whenever you can. You could go for a walk on the beach, enjoy a picnic or sunbathe in the garden.
Let the rays influence your body clock and help you feel more tired when nighttime rolls around.
5. It’s fun!
Finally, it can be lots of fun to enjoy a bit of time in nature! Taking your kids to the park, going for a picnic, planning a trip to the beach or enjoying a walk through the woods is always a great way to spend time with your friends and family, improving your physical and mental health.
Nothing beats a bit of time outside with your loved ones- especially when the weather’s nice.

Omg, this! Finland was chosen the happiest country in the world for the 6th time on a row, and it’s not a coincidence: the country is 70% forest, and being suroounded by greenery lowers stress levels immediately ;D Afternoon walks in the forest or a park are an essential part of my daily routine, no matter where in the world I am because they have such an effect on my overall wellbeing. Nature is our biggest source basic health in every way <3
