If you are eager to remain happy and content and without anxiety during these surreal days, a lockdown might not be beneficial to your frame of mind. It can be challenging to remain up and full of optimism when the new normal that has been thrust upon us is so difficult. We can’t see friends or head out to the cinema, we can’t venture out to our favorite restaurants and we can’t hug our nearest and dearest. This can heighten our anxieties and make us feel stressed. When our mental health suffers so does our physical well-being. Take a look at these ways to relieve your anxieties during the lockdown.
Head Outdoors
When we are struggling with anxiety, the mundane rut that we find ourselves in can seem neverending. It is difficult to stop yourself scrolling mindlessly through Facebook or watching the constant Covid-19 updates on twenty-four-hour news channels. However, you need to break the cycle and find natural ways of tackling depression and anxiety to benefit your mental health. Do something new and more tangible with your time. Think about heading outdoors more often to surround yourself with nature. Greenery has been proven to lower your blood pressure and heighten your mood. Stresses can dissipate as your dopamine levels increase and your cortisol decreases. You could combine venturing outdoors with doing exercises such as cycling, jogging or even orienteering!
Learn
Being indoors for longer periods of time can be soul-destroying. You may feel unproductive and bored. Dedicate some of your time to learning a new skill. Doing this can help you to focus your thoughts and channel your energies into exciting new hobbies. If you want to learn how to bake the finest vegan cakes, order yourself some new cookbooks online. If you want to partake in a spot of yoga, sign up for a free online Youtube course. And if you want to have a go at honing your guitar playing skills, head online and book yourself a one on one Zoom tutorial. Think about setting regular times where you can dedicate your efforts to your new hobby. This will give you something new to look forward to rather than wallowing in negative thoughts.
Social Media Detox
While heading online onto Twitter might seem sensible to keep abreast of the latest Covid developments, too much screen time can be harmful. Negative stories and stats can make you feel low and depressed. Rather than continue this cycle of misery, break it. Keep your screen time to less than an hour a day. If you do venture online, do something more productive and fun. Set up some Teams or Zoom calls with your friends and family. An online quiz is the height of fashion at the moment as is the ability to conduct some socially distanced discos or online dinner parties. Think outside the box and you can still meet up with pals and your mum and dad even if it is from the comfort of your own home.
Follow this guide and you can relieve your anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic.
Stay safe everyone.

A social media detox can be so healing! Getting away from the negative press and the overall fast pace of the social media platforms is great for anxiety. Great tips.

Yes, it is.I quite often take a day or two away from social media and the news to give myself a little break from it all.

These are excellent tips. I try to do a social media detox (or really an entire tech detox) whenever I get the chance. Since I’ve been blogging full-time for 6 years and doing social media management on the side, I get SO tired of screens by the end of each day. Having time away from them is wonderful!

Going out for a walk is great for clearing my head, and it gets me away from my laptop too.

A social media detox (and a good/safe level of news detox) right now is sooo good for your mental health! Sometimes you just want to get away from the facts and figures for a bit

Definitely. I try not to listen/watch it too much, Just enough so that I am aware of what is going on.
