I never really took that much care of my skin when I was in my twenties/early thirties. I’d always looked quite young for my age, so I couldn’t see the point in using lots of lotions and potions. But, over the last few years, I have been trying to improve the look of my skin. I take my make up off at night and use a moisturizer. I thought I was doing ok, but it seems not. But could a chemical peel improve the look of my skin?

Along with the ladies from Bournemouth Bloggers, I was invited to the Smart Skin salon to learn about chemical peels. This was something that I had never even considered before as I had visions of me looking like Samantha did in Sex in the City (wow, that was a while ago!). But, I thought I would go along and at least see what is involved.

On the night, Marta who runs the salon talked us through the different types of chemical peel. There are different strength ones, with the stronger ones only being able to be done in the winter months as the harsh sun of warmer months could damage your skin.

Marta then showed us (on a willing model) how the year-round chemical peels were done. It was really interesting to see it being done and how the skin looked after. She also did a face mask on the model after the peels to help the effects of it come through.

At this point, I was more than intrigued and booked myself in for a skin analysis. This is done to see the condition of the skin and what treatment would be best for it.

The skin analysis was very in-depth. Marta used a special device that could measure how deep wrinkles are if there is a build-up of sebum and if pores are enlarged. It only took a few minutes for her to do. Then she went through the results of the analysis with me.

It turns out my skin wasn’t in as great of condition as I thought! Some of my wrinkles are quite deep, I have enlarged pores and a build-up of sebum. She also said that my skin looked older than it should do.

Marta gave me some advice on how to improve the look of my skin. She said that I should start using a serum with anti-aging and moisturizing properties., and to try using an eye cream to lessen the puffiness under my eyes. I have also started using a vitamin C face wash and a pore minimizing primer.

I then booked an appointment for the following week to get a chemical peel to improve my skin further.

When the day of the peel came around I was quite nervous, even though I had seen a chemical peel being done my nerves were jangling.

Marta soon put me at ease and started my cleansing my face thoroughly with a vitamin C cleanser.

Now, it was time to apply the chemical peel. Marta used Purle`s 63 20% peel. It is brushed on the face gently, three layers were added to my face. The smell wasn’t very nice. it was sort of alcohol/chemically, it was very strong as it was brushed under my nose as well as the rest of my face. It was left on my face for 10 minutes.

The smell was so strong that I was quite relieved when it was time to take it off. Marta cleansed my skin again then she applied a face mask. She asked me if I was claustrophobic, I said no. She said that is good as this mask goes over your eyes too. This did freak me out a little bit lol! It felt very weird going on to my face, I ended looking like I should have been in The Simpson’s lol!

The mask was on me for 15 minutes. It was strangely relaxing. I could have easily fallen asleep! I was really impressed by the fact that Marta removed the mask all in one piece and it didn’t hurt at all. My skin felt instantly refreshed!

As you can see from the picture above, my skin was glowing! I was very impressed with the results of the chemical peel. It definitely improved the look of my skin.

Marta said it would be good to get one done every few months to get your skin looking really good. The chemical peel costs £50, which means that if I did get one done again it would be before an important event or special day. But, I would get one done again.

It wasn’t as invasive as I thought it would be at all. The only bit that wasn’t pleasant was the smell of the chemical peel, but I could put up with that for the great results I got.

If you would like to get a chemical peel done for a special event, I would recommend that you check a few salons out to make sure that the staff knows what they are doing and it is clean, etc.

Is this the sort of treatment you could see yourself getting?
