My Love For The Gym

Those of you that follow me on Instagram will know I go to the gym a lot. I think the majority of my photos and stories are from the gym. I have been going to the gym for the last 4/5 years. But it has only been in the last 6 months or so that I have really fallen in love with going. I always enjoyed it, but now I love it and I really miss it if I can’t go.

A lot of my friends think that I am mad spending so much time at the gym. But it has really helped me in a couple of ways.

Firstly, and most obviously, going to the gym has helped me to lose weight. After my dad passed away nearly 3 years ago I put on a lot of weight. I comfort ate and didn’t go to the gym very much, I lost enthusiasm for a lot of things. Losing my dad hit me very hard and I don’t think I will ever come properly to terms with it. This year I got to the point where I was really unhappy with how I looked and decided it was time to really, properly do something about it.

I cut fizzy drinks out of my daily diet ( I will have them if we go out) and have cut down on the amount of sweets I eat. My diet is very far from perfect (thanks to IBS healthy options don’t sit very well with me) but I am working on that too. I also started to look on YouTube and in magazines for workout inspiration. There were so many different workouts and exercises I hadn’t tried before. Finding new things to try really helped my enthusiasm.

And secondly, the gym has helped my stress/mental health too. When I go to the gym I am so busy counting reps etc that I can’t think about anything else. I put my headphones on and blast some music out and get on with it. The feeling you get after completing a really good workout is brilliant. It feels so good to walk out knowing you have really pushed yourself and done your best.

I have got to the point now where I want to be able to do so much more. So to help me with this I have been getting myself little bit to help me with my workouts.

Lifting weights can be hard on your hands, especially if like me you have dry skin. I decided to get some glove to protect my hands a bit more.

These weightlifting gloves from TapouT were perfect. They are padded on the palm to give your hands more protection when lifting dumbbells and bars. They are really comfy and don’t make my hands sweat.

I also got some glute bands. These are something I have been looking at for a while after seeing some workouts with them in a magazine. They are great for warming up when doing a full leg workout or a lighter workout if you want. I find them especially good for activating my glutes while doing glute bridges or hip thrusters.

As well as my new little bits of equipment I want to get some more gym clothes too. I really want to get some full length leggings. All the ones I have are 3/4 length and its a bit chilly for them now. Now I am becoming more confident in what I am doing in the gym it would be nice to look the part too.

I am looking forward to spending more time in the gym. Improving what I can do and hopefully becoming happier in the way that I look.
