I have been reading a lot more this year, as I have said before, it’s one of my goals for the year to read more.It hasn’t always been easy to fit time for reading in. The last couple of weeks I have struggled to read at all, I think I’ve read 2 chapters of one book and that’s it. I need to organise my time a bit better so I can start to fit this in properly again.
I was quite impressed with myself that I have managed to read 3 books in less than 2 months. That might not seem many to some, but it’s a lot of reading for me. I have kind of stuck to the same kind of books that I read in my last reading update post (You can read that here). I’m really into crime/psychological thrillers at the moment. I like to be kept guessing as to what is going on.
So, what have I been reading…
Normal – Graeme Cameron
I am not really sure where I picked this up from, but I am glad that I did. The blurb on the back of the book drew me in, but it was not what I was expecting. The book is cleverly written from the point of view of a serial killer. At the start I wasn’t sure how I felt about him, but by the end of the book I was rooting for him. I found the story compelling and the way the character became more humanised was well written. If you have a bit of a dark sense of humour you will definitely enjoy this.
The Fear – C. L. Taylor
I had seen this book pop up a lot on my Instagram feed. So many people seemed to love it so I thought I would give it a go. This is the story of someone going back to their home town to confront their past in order to move forward. The main thing she wants to confront is the relationship she had with her Martial Arts Instructor when she was just 14. The story is very tense at times and you can really feel the characters angst. Although this isn’t a whodunnit kind of book, I didn’t see what happened at the end coming. I found this really hard to put down, especially as it built to the climax at the end. A brilliant book.
Friend Request – Laura Marshall
This is another book I saw a lot of good things about on Instagram. A woman receives a friend request on Facebook from a school friend who died 25 years ago. Who is behind it, is the girl really dead? I found this book totally immersive, I was hooked straight away. I actually read it in 4 days, which is very quick for me! The book jumps between past events and the present in a non confusing way. I liked the way the events of the past come to a climax at more or less the same time as present day. The outcome of the story completely surprised me, I thought I had it worked out but I was so wrong! I love that the book was able to surprise me like this. Friend Request is definitely a book I would recommend.
I enjoyed all three of these books, they have certainly helped me keep up my reading game lol.
Have you read any good books lately, I am always looking for new authors/books to try.
Take care everyone.

I’ve read so much rubbish this year, i can’t get over how terrible some ‘best sellers’ are. However, I just finished the Museum of Modern Love and adored it, as did all our bookclub, which is a pretty rare occurance. Beautifully written. And I’m midway thru the Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – it’s so much fun. I’m delighting in it, tho I suspect the ending will be a let down. I just can’t see how there can be a satisfactory answer to what’s happening. But I’m LOVING the ride! #KCACOLS

I”m also enjoying reading more and am a month ahead of my book a month goal for 2018! So I’m really pleased with that. I’m in a facebook reading book and it’s making me explore new-to-me genres which is great, though one I abandoned (!) and the other I didn’t start because it’s about girl our daughter’s who goes missing… I may add these to my reading list. #kcacols

My New Year’s Resolution was to read more so, like you, I’m trying to read more books this year! Friend Request and The Fear definitely sound great, I will look those up thank you! I’m currently re-reading an old book for my local Book Club. Before that I read Little Fires Everywhere which I totally recommend! Good luck with reading more! #KCACOLS

Well done for reading so much. I find it really difficult to find the time. I have started reading a lot more too this year. I generally read on the train on the way into work. I am not a great fan of psychological thrillers though.

Oh i wish I had more time to read! I really miss it. It takes me so long to read one book because I only have short moments. Ive actually got a list on my phone of books I want to read. We have a week in Greece in a few weeks and I hope that the husband will entertain our son and our daughter will nap so I can actually get some reading done for once! I’m a fan of the chicklit type mainly but the Friend Request book appealed to me so I may add it to my list. #KCACOLS

I love a good psychological thriller too, I’ve read friend request which I enjoyed but will look up the other two. One of the books I’m reading at the moment is ‘Into the darkest corner’ by Elizabeth Haynes, it is a real page turner!

I’ve been making a big effort to read more lately and can’t believe how little I did over the winter. Now that my daughter is able to amuse herself a little bit more, its something that I’ve really been enjoying #KCACOLS

I didn’t realise how little reading I did before I decided to do more of it, I aim to continue with this.
