At the start of Autumn, I wrote a post all about my favourite Autumn skincare essentials. However, as we are now getting into Winter, it is even more important to protect your skin against the harsh and cold weather outside.
In this post, I want to discuss 6 ways to protect your skin this Winter. There are so many ways to look after your skin, including external tricks and little things to stay healthy from the inside.
I don’t know about you, but I always feel better when I have a proper skincare routine in place. Whether you’re trying to reduce blemishes or you just want to keep your skin hydrated this Winter, I hope you find a few helpful suggestions in this post!
1. Moisturise everyday
Moisturiser is so important, to keep your skin hydrated and to stop dry skin from developing.
I think sometimes when we think of skincare, we only think about our face. However, the Winter weather can affect our whole body, so it’s important to moisturise everywhere.
Lather that moisturiser on your legs, arms, torso and face during the Winter months, to keep your skin fresh and hydrated throughout the season!
2. Invest in a quality SPF cream
Just because the sun isn’t shining down like in Summer, it doesn’t mean it can’t still affect your skin. Put some SPF cream on before heading outside to help prevent ageing and keep your skin happy and hydrated throughout the Winter months.
This can also help to prevent skin cancer in the future, and it is an easy way to protect yourself every single day.
3. Protect your lips!
Your lips are one of the most exposed areas of your body, and they are really affected by the cold and wind in Winter time. Choose a good lip balm to see you through the Winter, including Vaseline, Carmex or Burt’s Bees.
These lip balms will keep your lips hydrated during the cold months. Try to stop licking your lips, as this will also help you to avoid dry, chapped lips in Winter.
4. Stop tanning
Tanning beds or sunlamps can be very damaging to the skin- at any time of the year. It’s tempting to keep your Summer tan into the long Winter months, but choose self-tanning creams instead of more permanent tanning options.
Tanning beds can even cause skin cancer, so avoid tanning beds to protect your skin in every season.
5. Avoid the cold
Okay, so I know it’s kind of impossible to avoid the cold in Winter- especially in the UK. However, it is important to protect your skin as much as possible in cold weather.
Bundle up when you go outside, including coats, hoods and scarves. This will shield your skin from the wind and rain as much as possible, keeping it dry and happy throughout the Winter months!
6. Take vitamin D everyday
During the Winter months, we don’t get much strong sunshine in the UK. This means we often fail to get enough vitamin D, as this vitamin is hard to get from our diet alone.
Take a good vitamin D supplement everyday to keep your body and skin healthy throughout the Winter.
Do you have any tips to protect your skin in Winter? What do you do to look after yourself when it gets colder outside? Let me know!
Take care everyone x

My daily moisturiser has SPF in it so luckily when I’m going to be outside, I’m already protected which is great! These are great tips. You’ve also reminded me to invest in a new lip balm!

I try to get moisturiser and some makeup products that have SPF in them, they help my skin all year round.

I need to work more on my skin and these are some great things to consider. For me, I’m working to make it habit to do anything for my ski to keep it protected.

I’ve made skincare a part of my daily routine.
