Books I Have Read February – April 2018

One of my goals this year was to read more books. So far, I have not done as well with this as I had hoped. But there is still quite a bit of the year to go yet, so plenty of time for more books.
This is great, as I have quite a pile of books that I have bought and not yet read! I have also seen a few books that I would like to get, but so far I have resisted the urge to buy them lol!
So far this year I have read three books, and I am quite a way through a fourth. At the moment I am into thrillers. I love reading a story and trying to work out the puzzle as I go through it.
It’s not so good though if I work out who did it halfway through, I get bored if that happens and give up on the book.
So here is what I have been reading.
Driven – Dane Cobain
I actually wrote a review of Driven on the blog a couple of months ago. It is a quirky detective story set in London. It follows private detective James Leipfold as he tries to solve the murder of a young actress.
I really enjoyed this book, it was exciting and kept me guessing all the way through. I am looking forward to reading more Leipfold stories in the future.
The Killing Kind – John Connolly
I bought this as it was on special offer in WHSmiths. I was just looking for something to add for a 3 for 2 offer. It wasn’t until I got home that I realised that it was the third book in a series. But, that didn’t matter, it was a good read as a standalone book.
Charlie Parker is a private detective and is asked to look into the apparent suicide of an old girlfriend. Once he starts investigating it becomes apparent that things are far from what they seem and Charlie and his friends are in danger. This book was full of suspense and twists and turns.
Some of the ways in which people are killed in this book are interesting, they literally made my skin crawl! The descriptions of settings and times past are really well written and it was easy to put myself there with the characters.
I am going to try to read a few more Charlie Parker books, it would be good to see where his story began (and ends).
Then She Was Gone – Lisa Jewell
I decided to get this book as I had seen it on many Instagram feeds and in blog posts. In every one people were saying how good it was, and they were right!
Then she was gone follows the story of Laurel, whose daughter went missing 10 years ago. She meets a lovely man with a nine-year-old daughter who is very similar to her lost daughter.
This brings back all the memories and unanswered questions back. I loved the way the story went back and forth between then and now, it was well-written and didn’t get confusing.
The story is full of emotion, but also tense and gripping. I couldn’t put this down, it was so good!
As I said, I am already part-way through another book and have more books waiting to be read, so I will be writing another post like this in a month or two.
Have you read any of these books, if so what did you think? And, do you have any book recommendations for me, I’d love to hear them.
Take care everyone.

I keep seeing Then She Was Gone everywhere! I’m glad you enjoyed, and it sounds like a good thriller so I’ll have to pick it up! I would recommend Six Stories by Matt Wesolowski if you’re looking for a really different kind of thriller!
I’m always posting about books on my website and Instagram if you’re interested! ?

I love the sound of all of these! I actually won a copy of Then She Was Gone a while ago but haven’t found time to read it yet. I might have to bump it a few places up the ‘to read’ list. 🙂 #KCACOLS

I go through stages of reading lots, but this month I haven’t read anything. I’m not a crime fan but The Killing Kind was recommended to me so I have bought it but not read it yet, may have to dig it out. #kcacols

I’m reading again too and I love it! I’m on my 5th book of the year and seeing as it’s May as I type this, I must be doing okay! I’m not so keen on thrillers but I’m trying new genres due to the reading group so perhaps that’ll be next! #kcacols

I haven’t read any of these books but I think you are doing really well onto your fourth book by May – that’s really good! I love historical fiction so anything to do with Victorian London or grave robbers and all that kind of stuff. I actually find it difficult to find! Thanks for linking up with #KCACOLS hope to see you again next week!
