My Top 5 Self-Care Essentials

Self-care is so important- and it’s equally as important to understand what works for you.

Everyone will have a different idea about how to look after themselves. From taking a bath to spending a bit of kid-free time, there are lots of ways to prioritise your self-care when you need it.

For me, self-care is all about taking time to rest and relax. As I spend a lot of time taking care of my family, self-care time allows me to just take care of myself. I can read a book, drink tea, do a bit of colouring or just take a nap.

In this blog post, read about my top 5 self-care essentials. This list includes plenty of simple ideas for anyone to try out- including suggestions that can be adapted to your own self-care routine.

1. Comfortable bedding

It’s impossible to look after yourself if you don’t have the basics covered! Getting enough sleep is so important to repair and rejuvenate your body, ready for the day ahead.

You also need to find a pair of comfortable pyjamas to help you get ready for bed. This can improve your sleep hygiene and create a great nighttime routine.

2. Bubble bath

Enjoying a bubble bath is one of the best ways to rest, relax and prioritise your self-care. It gives you the chance to soak your body, read a good book or just take some time to yourself, away from the kids.

For that reason, bubble bath is one of my top self-care essentials! I also love to add plenty of bath salts or essential oils to my bath. I always get out feeling chilled and smelling great.

3. Skincare essentials

Skincare is a big part of my self-care routine, as it is for many people.

From applying the right moisturiser to cleaning my face at the end of the day, using the right skincare products helps me take a bit of time to look after myself every day.

Recently I have been using the Edelweiss skincare range from The Body Shop. It helps to smooth skin and protect it from pollutants and gives 24-hour hydration. My skin is thanking me for treating it well.

I also love to apply a calming face mask from time to time. This can be a super relaxing experience at the end of a long week or when I just need a self-care afternoon to myself.

4. Water bottle

Hydration is an important self-care tool, allowing your body to function properly. You need to drink enough water to care for your physical and mental health, and this is a central part of a successful self-care routine.

A water bottle is one of my top self-care essentials, as it ensures I drink enough water during the day.

Although it’s fine to fill up my glass throughout the day, a water bottle is easier when I need to drink on the go or if I want to track how much I actually drink each day.

5. A good book

For me, self-care is all about giving myself time to do the things I love. This includes reading a good book!

Reading is a great self-care activity, as it gives you chance to lose yourself in a different world. You can forget your troubles or just distract yourself for a couple of hours.

A good book means different things to different people. You could try a self-help book, check out a new thriller or just read your favourite cosy novel.
