When the Summer months roll around, I love to find new make-up looks to try out. When my daughter was little, we used to enjoy pampering afternoons all the time, trying out new make-up and applying our favourite products.

Although I don’t like to wear make-up everyday – and I think we should all love how we look without it – sometimes it’s lots of fun to get a bit dressed up or try out a new look. During Summer, it’s important to find light make-up products, especially if the weather is warm. There’s nothing worse than wearing heavy make-up when it’s hot outside!

In this blog post, I’ve put together my Summer make-up essentials – including lots of product recommendations for anyone to try out.

1. Hydrating foundation

If you like to wear foundation during Summer, it’s a good idea to choose a hydrating one! It’s so important to keep your skin hydrated throughout the year – but it might need an extra bit of help on warm, dry Summer days.

There are a few different hydrating foundation options out there, including:

If you’re looking for a lighter look when the sun is shining, you could also choose powder, instead of a full face of foundation. I like to use the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder because it hides any shine but it doesn’t feel too cakey on my face.

2. Lip gloss

Lip gloss is such a great Summer make-up look – and I love wearing lip gloss for any occasion. It’s a little more glamorous than lip balm, giving you a cool shine and keeping your lips happy and healthy. You can apply a plain colour for everyday use, or choose a bright colour if you’re heading out for the evening.

There are so many options – so you’re sure to find the right lip gloss to go with your favourite Summer outfit. The Soap & Glory Pillow Plump Lip Gloss comes in neutral tones, or the L’Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipstick is a great choice for a bold option.

There are a few lip gloss products that also have SPF qualities, protecting your lips from the sun. This can help to prevent any soreness as the weather gets warmer. Many lip glosses contain SPF, such as Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Ageing Lip Gloss.

3. Eyeliner

I’ve used a lot of eyeliners over the years, including the Crazy Sexy Kohl eyeliner and Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner at Boots. Eyeliner is your Summer make-up essential, adding a fun and glamorous touch to any Summer outfit. I love finding a great eyeliner – although it can be tricky to apply it sometimes!

There are lots of options when it comes to finding the perfect eyeliner for your Summer look, such as liquid eyeliner in black or brown, or a simple eyeliner pencil.

4. Suncream

Suncream is a must during Summer! Even though it never gets too warm here in the UK, you still need to protect your skin from the sun whenever you can. Get into the habit of wearing suncream whenever you head out, and choose a light SPF cream to go under your make-up.

Many suncream products and SPF creams can also protect against UVA and UVB rays, blue light and even pollution, such as the Simple Protect ‘N’ Glow Triple Protect Moisturiser. This will keep your skin healthy and glowing throughout the Summer months.

The Garnier Ambre Solaire Invisible Protect Glow Sun Protection Spray from Boots is also a great choice.

Even though suncream isn’t something you can see, a good SPF cream can give you a nice, dewy glow – and it will help with anti-ageing, too.

5. Eyeshadow

Eyeshadow is a versatile product for your Summer make-up bag. If you’re like me and you usually keep your make-up simple, eyeshadow is a great way to add a bit of fun to your usual look. There are SO many options to choose from, including liquid or powder eyeshadow.

I love trying out new eyeshadow products and colours. If you want to keep it simple, choose a warm colour that matches your skin tone. If you’re looking for something a bit more glamorous, you could choose bright colours or team your eyeshadow with cool eyeliner.

The Dior 5 Couleurs Couture – Summer Dune Collection is a great palette to check out at this time of year.

There are lots of YouTube make-up tutorials if you want to create a more complicated eyeshadow look – the options are endless!
